Annual report insights 2014 - Providing a clear steer

Published on: 08 Oct, 2014

This publication analyses the annual reports of 100 listed UK companies’ from multiple sectors and provides suggestions on how annual reports can be improved. The video above presents our key findings.

The publication examines how companies have dealt with the latest corporate reporting challenges, including the narrative and financial elements,  identifying new innovations and highlighting industry best practice as a take away for preparers to consider.

The regulatory overview provided in the main document clearly sets out the current requirements governing annual reports, changes coming into force over the next year or so, regulatory hotspots and links to further resources.

In addition to the interactive pdf of the full analysis, a short booklet is also available, comprising the following two distinct parts:

  • The highlights - a summary of the key findings from the main survey, allowing you to quickly understand the areas of corporate reporting and current regulatory interest, with top tips and the identification of best practice examples.
  • A clear steer for your annual report -  suggestions on how annual reports can be improved in the coming reporting season based on our survey findings, areas that will be under scrutiny from regulators and ideas on how to cut clutter. Recognising that there are different appetites as to how far preparers want to go, our suggestions are split into four levels, ranging from the bare minimum to how companies can go the extra mile.

The full survey can be downloaded below. Click here for the booklet with highlights and ways to improve your annual report.
