IASC: International Accounting Standards Committee – 1973 to March 2001
From 1973 until a comprehensive reorganisation that took effect on 1 April 2001, the structure for setting International Accounting Standards was known as the International Accounting Standards Committee (IASC). There was no actual "committee" of that name. The standard-setting board was known as the Board of the IASC, or the IASC Board.

The Board of the IASC promulgated a substantial body of Standards, Interpretations, a Conceptual Framework, and other guidance that is adopted directly by many companies and that is looked to by many national accounting standard-setters in developing national accounting standards.

The historical information about the IASC below is based on tables prepared for The International Accounting Standards Committee: A Political History, by Robert J. Kirsch, 465 pages, published in February 2007 by WoltersKluwer/CCH, ISBN: 978-1-84140-608-4. Product code: UP/KIRSCH-BI7001, order by email: customerservice@cch.co.uk. We are grateful to the author and publisher for permission to post this information.

You will also find historical information about the IASC, including Exposure Drafts and final Standards and Interpretations issued year by year, on our Chronology Page.
