On September 14, 2016, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) released a speech by Andrew Ceresney, Director of Enforcement Division at the SEC, given at the Sixteenth Annual Taxpayers Against Fraud Conference in Washington, DC.

In his speech, Mr. Ceresney states that "in its short history, our whistleblower program has had tremendous impact." He also covers the following:

  • the history of the SEC Whistleblower Office and how the Office has grown since its inception;
  • the types of cases where a whistleblower’s assistance is particularly valuable;
  • the different types of whistleblowers they have seen and the timing of their provision of information; and
  • some observations on how whistleblowers, and their counsel, can be most helpful to their enforcement efforts.

Review the speech on the SEC's website.
