The Modern Slavery Act 2015 was published in March 2015, in response to heightened concern around slavery, human trafficking and forced labour in global supply chains. The Act requires action by companies with 31 March 2016 year ends onwards. 

This Governance in brief explores the background to the Modern Slavery Act 2015, the reporting requirements, including which companies must comply, and suggests some areas for organisations to consider when preparing to issue their first modern slavery and human trafficking statement, including adding the requirements to the board’s central compliance register or risk register.
