Robert Bruce interviews — Explaining the issues around climate-related financial disclosures

Published on: 05 Apr, 2017

As Special Advisor to the Financial Stability Board’s Climate-related Financial Disclosures Task Force, the body which produced the Bloomberg Report, Russell Picot is at the forefront of efforts to encourage the disclosure of climate risks in annual reports. Robert Bruce, our regular, resident columnist has interviewed him and reports on the latest progress.

In this video Picot talks about the objectives of the Bloomberg Report as the comment letters are taken into account ahead of final publication of the report later this year. He discusses how the report’s recommendations could work; the importance of bringing climate risks into the mainstream of corporate and financial reporting; the opportunities opening up for the finance function in this role; the importance of asset owners properly understanding climate risks, and the needs of shareholders and stakeholders. He also talks about how his role as Chair of the Judging Panel for the Finance For The Future Awards has informed his thinking and his hopes for the future.
