The director of the Division of Investment Management at the SEC, Norm Champ, gave a speech today on the current SEC priorities regarding hedge fund managers. He highlighted several relevant regulatory initiatives pertaining the hedge fund industry.

Mr. Champ discussed the following topics:

  • Lifting the ban on general solicitation and the "bad actor" amendment.
  • Using information garnered by registration an reporting reform to become more efficient regulators.
  • Improving awareness of the hedge fund industry through a hands-on outreach initiative.
  • Revisiting compliance policies and procedures to end insider trading.
