In a speech to the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) and BritishAmerican Business, SEC Commissioner Kara M. Stein discussed the effects of technology on financial reporting.

Ms. Stein emphasized the importance of using recent technological developments to help companies provide timely, decision-useful information to investors. She suggested that rather than focus too heavily on convergence of accounting standards, accountants should question how “[a]dvances in communications, technology, and data analytics” can help improve financial reporting.

Commissioner Stein’s full speech is available on the SEC’s Web site.
