The FASB has issued a (1) final taxonomy style guide, “Balance Type,” and (2) proposed taxonomy style guide, “Dimension Uses.”

Balance-type guide

The final guide provides “guidance for modeling the balance type — debit or credit — of monetaryItemType elements contained in the GAAP Financial Reporting Taxonomy.” The FASB taxonomy staff uses this guidance “to model the balance type attribute using a clear, structured and consistent framework.”

The final guide is available on the FASB’s Web site.

Dimensional modeling guide

The proposed guide, which is part of a series of guides addressing dimensional modeling, would “serve as a reference for users of the Taxonomy in interpreting the modeling for particular disclosure topics.”

Comments on the proposed guide are due by July 11, 2016.
