Clarifying certain existing principles on statement of cash flows

The objective of this project is to reduce diversity in practice in financial reporting by clarifying certain existing principles in ASC 230, Statement of Cash Flows, including providing additional guidance on how and what an entity should consider in determining the classification of certain cash flows.

  • April 1, 2015 — The Board decided to have the EITF consider nine specific cash flow issues with the goal of reducing the existing diversity in practice on a timely basis.
  • April 28, 2014 — The Board decided to add this project to its agenda.
  • April 23, 2014 — Education session evaluating the preliminary research and findings on certain cash flow classification issues within the statement of cash flows.

The FASB staff is conducting additional research and outreach to gather clarifying guidance and its application to ASC 230.
