The UN Global Compact’s CEO Water Mandate initiative has released the finalised 'Corporate Water Disclosure Guidelines' and the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) has published a report titled 'Spotlight on Corporate Transparency: Insights from GLOBE 2014'.

The new guidance developed by the CEO Water Mandate aims to harmonise reporting approaches and minimise reporting burdens. The guidelines are intended to advance metrics and qualitative approaches that provide meaningful information about corporate water practice and to drive convergence among company reporting to increase comparability and understandability. At the same time, the guidance was designed to be accessible and feasible for companies, while remaining meaningful for their stakeholders. The Guidelines are available as a PDF report and web-based tool on the Water Mandate's website.

GRI's report from GLOBE 2014 held in March focuses on insights from the 'Transparency Track' of the meeting hosted by GRI, which also included a keynote speech about the drivers of non-financial disclosure and the strategic value of sustainability reporting and a poll to capture participants perspectives on corporate transparency. The report includes the following key findings:

  • transparency is critical to building trust between business and society;
  • reputational risk is driving the business case for transparency;
  • governments and securities regulators can play a leading role in enhancing transparency; and
  • CEOs are actively involved in shaping corporate sustainability strategies.

The report and a corresponding press release are available on the GRI website.
