The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) (Formerly BIS)

The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) replaced the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) and the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) in July 2016. The department invests in skills and education to promote trade, boost innovation and help people to start and grow a business. BEIS also sets regulations and legislations to help business to tackle climate change.

BEIS is a ministerial department employing around 5,000 staff who work in offices in London, Aberdeen and around the UK.

BEIS is responsible for UK government policy on areas including:

  • Business
  • Industrial strategy
  • Science, research and innovation
  • Energy and clean growth
  • Climate change
